Denver police to hire 30 civilians for police jobs

The Denver Police Department hopes to save $600,000 a year by hiring civilians to fill about 30 jobs now held by officers.

The department has reviewed all positions to find out which jobs civilians could do so the officers can return to patrol duties.

According to the Denver Post (http://tinyurl.com/bzwmavh ), the Denver police union says some of the jobs being considered require police experience, including crime scene analysts.

The union says some of those jobs can’t be learned by reading books.
