Monument snow starting to stick on side streets

The Friday morning drive through Monument may take longer than usual due to the snow.

By late Thursday night, side streets were beginning to freeze up, causing icy patches on many stretches.

Some were more surprised by the sudden drop in temperatures than the early return of winter weather.

“We’re used to getting a lot of snow here, we’re used to getting it at this time of year and some of us are more prepared than others,” said Cathleen Norman, a Palmer Lake resident.

Others said they wouldn’t live in Tri-Lakes area if they weren’t ready for all seasons.

Many encouraged drivers new to the area to slow down and leave plenty of distance for braking.
