Deadly motorcycle crash in Chaffee County

The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a deadly motorcycle accident.

56-year-old Robert Underhill was killed in the crash on Thursday night. He left Weld County on Wednesday, reportedly enroute to Salida, authorities said.

State Patrol found Underhill and his 2005 Yamaha XV-Star motorcycle on US 24 about 7 miles east of Buena Vista. Troopers say Underhill lost control and went off the side of the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alcohol and speed are not considered factors in this crash. While he had a helmet with him, it did not appear that it was being used, State Patrol said.

The State Patrol is awaiting toxicology results to determine if marijuana played a role in the crash.
