Wetmore Fire Weather

Strong wind gusts will continue overnight along the east slopes of the Wet and Sangre de Cristo mountains. At times the gusts may be in excess of 60mph out of the SW and this may keep the fire growing. A High Wind Warning is in effect for the mountains and adjacent foothills to the southwest of Pueblo through 9am Wednesday.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect for these same mountain areas and the eastern plains along and south of US Highway 50 from 11am until 7pm Wednesday. Strong wind gusts will continue and relative humidity levels will drop to between 5 and 15% as the temperatures warm back up ahead of a cold front that will arrive Wednesday night. In advance of this front, the fire should continue to grow to the ENE on Wednesday.

A cold front Wednesday night will switch the wind direction out of the northeast and bring in colder air. The fire may get some snow showers late Thursday night and Friday morning. I’m hopeful that the fire gets hit as spotty showers could drop a quick inch or two of snow.
