St. Louis Zoo changes display after complaints

The St. Louis Zoo will change a Halloween display of about 10 ghosts with black faces hanging from trees after complaints that it resembled lynchings.

An outside vendor made and installed the decorations, which includes faceless ghosts with a light in each head. At night, the light shines through, but during the day, the black faces are all that’s visible.

Spokesman Wyndel Hill said zoo officials decided after hearing some complaints to take the display down.

Zoo patron Chris Burchett said he complained about the display and appreciated the zoo’s decision to remove it.
