Fountain police look for hit-and-run driver

The Fountain Police Department is looking for the driver of a sedan believed to have caused an accident and left the scene on Saturday morning.

Police said that just before noon, a red or burgundy sedan hit a scooter while both vehicles were turning left from eastbound Highway 16 onto northbound U.S. 85. Before officers arrived, the sedan had left the scene.

The 78-year-old female driver of the scooter was transported to the hospital with serious injuries but is recovering, police said.

“We believe the vehicle struck her, made the turn, just got too close to her and she might have been forced out into the vehicle,” said Deputy Chief Bill Elder. “I don’t believe the driver of that vehicle even knows that he struck her.

The investigation is ongoing and Fountain police officers are still searching for the red or burgundy sedan and the driver. Due to the victim still being hospitalized, police officers have been unable to interview her.

If you have any information about the accident, or the parties involved, please contact the Fountain Police Department at (719) 382-8555. The reference case number is #12-32367.
