Colorado College students follow debate

Pizza and politics mixed on the Colorado College campus for students watching Tuesday night’s presidential debate.

The college provided free pizza at four residence halls and invited students to watch the event on big screens in hall lounges.

About 40 students gathered at Slocum Hall for the debate. The pizza disappeared quickly as the seats filled. Students found the debate entertaining at times, responding vocally to comments made by President Barack Obama and challenger Mitt Romney.

Some students will take part in electing a president for the first time. Several students said they plan to re-elect Obama.

“I do support him, more out of a dislike for Romney,” said sophomore Lauren Juskelis. “I definitely agree with a lot of his main points — but I disagree with some, also.”

“I am voting for Barack Obama, and still very concerned there’s a good chance that Mitt Romney will win,” said sophomore Wilder Kingsley. “And I want to see Obama’s policies carried out.”

Smaller watch parties also were held at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.
