Authorities investigate suspicious Otero County death

The Otero County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious death in Fowler.

Investigators say just before 8:00 p.m. Friday, they found 76-year-old Byron Griffy dead at a home near the intersection of County road 4.5 and US Highway 50. On Tuesday, the El Paso County Coroner conducted an autopsy and determined that Griffy died as the result of a gunshot wound to the head. The Otero County Sheriff’s Office says the circumstances surrounding Griffy’s death are suspicious.
