Power outage affecting central Pueblo

Many in downtown Pueblo were without power for a few hours Sunday afternoon and evening.

A spokesman for Black Hills Energy said a faulty circuit at the company’s substation downtown is to blame. It also sparked a fire in which smoke was seen coming from the facility. That fire is out now.

At the height of the outage 3,099 Pueblo customers were affected according to the company’s website.

A spokesman for Black Hills said the power restoration process is underway but this is not a “typical outage.” Because of the fire at the substation the power will be restored in sections and not all at once.
