Arrest made in Springs crime spree

Colorado Springs police make an arrest after an all day crime spree.

Police tell KRDO Newschannel 13 it all started on E. Fountain Boulevard shortly after 11:00 a.m. Friday. A man stole a blue Ford Probe.

A short time later, that Ford Probe was used to ram in a garage door at a home on Montarbor Drive. That’s when police say the investigation led them to Dustin Gartner.

Gartner got away from police. Police say that’s when he decided to ditch the Ford Probe. Shortly after 1 p.m. police say Gartner carjacked a red Ford Mustang from Escapardo Way. Police say he threatened bodily harm when taking the Mustang.

Police say the crime spree continued a short time later at the Best Buy on North Academy. Police say he he shoplifted from the store but once again, left before police arrived.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m. police say they got a 911 call from Gartner’s father saying his son arrived home with a stolen Ford Mustang. Gartner was gone when police arrived at the home on Pony Tracks Drive.

Police caught up with with Gartner shortly after 9:30 p.m. when he started knocking on doors and talking to people on Afternoon Circle and Chelton Drive.

Gartner was booked into the jail and is facing multiple charges including motor vehicle theft, burglary, robbery and theft.
