Wildfire burns in Rocky Mountain National Park

A wildfire burning on the east side of Rocky Mountain National Park has prompted evacuations of a nearby campground, along with backcountry campsites and trails in the area.

No structures are threatened.

The fire has burned across about 300 acres and is about 2 miles west of the Fern Lake trailhead. Park officials say the blaze was burning to the north in steep, forested terrain.

Cloudy, turbulent conditions kept a single-engine air tanker and helicopter from fighting the flames from above Tuesday. Crews planned to monitor the flames overnight.

In southwest Colorado, crews were trying to contain a 110-acre Goblin Fire that federal officials say may have been started by the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Train.

On Monday, firefighters near Red Cliff had to extinguish two abandoned campfires.
