Only 1 week left to register to vote

There are only 35 days left until Election Day and if you want to cast a ballot the deadline is fast approaching.

The last day to register to vote is Tues. Oct. 9.

“You have to be registered 29 days before in order to participate in elections,” said Alissa Vanderveen, El Paso County elections office.

Vanderveen said they’ve already accepted 55,000 voter registration forms in the last two months. She said that number does include voters who have updated their information.

In the meantime, the elections office is already accepting mail-in and walk-in ballots. They are also making sure everything is ready for Election Day.

“We are in the process of preparing our equipment and making sure everything works properly,” she said.

Both the Obama reelection campaign and Romney election team are pushing voter registrations.

KRDO News Channel 13 caught both campaigns catching people on their way into a county building Tues. morning.
