DMV Wait Times, Fire Code Restrictions Cause Complaints
Long waits at one DMV office have some people upset.
“I’m just waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, and waiting. It is frustrating,” said Justin Mills who is trying to get his motorcycle license.
Mills is just one of the many people trying to get into the state DMV office off of Union Blvd. and Van Buren St. It is the only full service DMV in El Paso County, and it is regularly backed up.
“They kept telling us there were too many people inside and that we had to wait outside,” said Mills.
That is because the Fire Marshall told employees in the building they can only have some 93 people inside, and if employees don’t stick to the fire code they will be shut down.
That wait doesn’t have to be an all day affair for everyone. If a person is renewing a license or bringing in an out of state license they can go to four different locations run by the county.
They are located at:
8830 N. Union Blvd., 1675 W Garden of the Gods, 200 S. Cascade Ave., 5650 Industrial Pl., Ste 100
Because of the current high demand at the state office the county may soon expand the number of services offered at those satellite locations.
“One of the reasons we are looking at expanding the services we offer at El Paso county is to alleviate some of that pressure on the state office,” said County Clerk and Recorder Wayne Williams.
