Trinidad coal mine extends layoffs

Toronto-based Cline Mining Corp. is extending its suspension of production at the New Elk Coal Mine pending improved market conditions, according to our news partners at the Pueblo Chieftain.

Cline Mining Corp. announced in July it was temporarily laying off 200 of its 235 workers for at least 60 days due to low demand for its coal.

Monday’s announcement indicates workers will not be called back to work in the near future.
