Murdered child’s stolen ashes returned to mom

Wendy Witte has been on an emotional roller coaster since moving to Colorado Springs a little more than a week ago.

On Saturday morning, her car was broken into in a parking lot and a thief grabbed an urn of her murdered child’s ashes. That urn was discovered in a trash dumpster and returned to Witte.

There is still another missing piece of the puzzle that was taken from Witte’s car. It’s a blue, grey and black backpack that had more precious keepsakes from her son, Robert. Witte wants the robbers to know what they took from her.

“I have so little. It means so much to me. It’s my heart. I would just love to have it back. I want whatever I have with my son back,” Witte said.

She said despite the thieves’ bad intent to make her short stay in Colorado Springs difficult, everyone else has been very nice to her, including police.

“I’m grateful, don’t get me wrong. I have my urn back. My son is back. However, I do want everything back,” Witte said.
