1 dog, 1 cat killed in house fire on Eagles Nest Drive

A house fire early Saturday morning was contained but not before it did an estimated $4,2000 in damage according to the Colorado Springs Firefighters.

It sparked at around 8:30 a.m. on Eagles Next Drive. Firefighters said they were first responding to a call about heavy smoke, but it quickly escalated.

The family who lives at the home was not home when the fire started. A woman and her two teenage daughters were not hurt.

Firefighters said one dog and one cat have died, but a second dog has still not been accounted for.

The family has been displaced from their home. The Red Cross is helping the family find a place to stay.

The cause and origin are being investigated but Saturday afternoon a tweet from the fire department indicated that the fire was an accident.
