Some Colo. shooting victims want fund arbitrator

Family members of some of those killed or wounded in the mass shooting at a suburban Denver movie theater want lawmakers to put a victims’ fund under control of an independent arbitrator.

Tom Teves and other families called on Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper and others for help Thursday. The press conference was markedly less emotional than one last month, demanding a say in how the $5 million is spent.

Teves said the foundation overseeing the fund plans to spend some money on mental health care for victims, but he said the families want the money given directly to them and government dollars to pay for all medical bills.

The 7/20 Recovery Committee says it’s committed to honoring the input of all victims, not just the voices of a few.
