Police still looking for answers one year after murder

Colorado Springs Police are still looking for answers one year after a homeless man was murdered in Dorchester Park.

On September 13th, 2011, 47-year-old John Carlos Martinez was attacked in the park while he slept on playground equipment, police said.

The next day, a third party reported the assault and Martinez was taken to the hospital. He succumbed to his injuries about a week later.

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office completed an autopsy and ruled the manner of death a homicide due to blunt force trauma. The CSPD Homicide Unit continues to investigate this case, but has little information about the suspects other than they may be two Hispanic males.

If you have any information about this case, please call police at 719-444-7000.
