Caleb Medley’s Road To Recovery

The last victim of the Aurora shooting left a Denver hospital.

Caleb Medley from Florence was moved to an extended facility to continue his road to recovery. While he is still heavily sedated, he is no longer in ICU.

His friend and mentor, Vilmos Branyik, hopes Medley will be able to pursue his dream of becoming a comedian soon.

“Caleb is ‘steady wins the race.’ Caleb is the guy who decides what he wants to do and makes his moves to get to that point,” said Branyik.

He said Caleb now needs to focus on making a full recovery.

“The fact that he moved from ICU into another long-term care facility means his condition is continuing to improve. He is doing better but he probably doesn’t need critical care,” said Branyik.

Medley was one of the many who was injured in the Aurora theater shooting during a screening of “The Dark Knight Rises.” Twelve people were killed; Medley was among the 58 wounded.

“He still has a pellet in his brain that is never going to be removed. He was the longest in the hospital of any of them,” said Branyik.

A Facebook page dedicated to Medley gives insight on his recovery, stating, “Caleb is still not fully awake…He is still heavily sedated, but is slowly coming around and has been able to open his left eye.”

With medical bills piling up and Medley’s first child, Hugo, born just days after the attack Branyik decided to help them.

“The site that was created from him is call SupportCaleb.com. There is all the information you need to help him. Whatever rehab has to happen, he will take the steps to get through it,” said Branyik.
