Standoff in Pueblo ends peacefully

Pueblo police said a standoff on West Adams Avenue near Lincoln and Marilyn ended peacefully.

The suspect gave himself up to police a little after 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Police have identified the suspect as John Gow, 34. Gow was wanted on an escape warrant and as a suspect in several recent home invasion burglaries.

Police said this all started at around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday when they got a call about a suspicious car in the 900 block of Veta Avenue.

Officers said they followed the car to the 700 block of West Adams Avenue.

That’s when police said Gow ran into a stranger’s house whose door was unlocked.

Police said the homeowner is a senior citizen who was at the home alone. Officers were able to get him out of the house safely.

According to police, they then tried negotiating with Gow, but ended up using flash-bangs and tear gas to get him out.

Gow was taken to the hospital because he was exposed to tear gas, but police said he was then booked into the Pueblo County Jail.
