Hickenlooper, Hancock host Sept. 11 event

Colorado is honoring those who helped respond to this summer’s historic wildfires and the Aurora theater shooting as it marks the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan is among those speaking at Tuesday’s ceremony in front of Denver’s City and County Building. He told the audience that “Senseless acts of violence do not define us as a community.”

Gov. John Hickenlooper and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock are also attending the ceremony, which will include a remembrance march with first responders and military personnel.

World Trade Center artifacts and a New York City fire department truck are also on display.
