Burglary victim gets stolen scooter replaced

There’s a happy update to report on an elderly, disabled Colorado Springs woman who needed transportation after her electric scooter was stolen.

T.J. Wolski of Colorado Springs donated a scooter Tuesday to the burglary victim, Glenda Luoma. The scooter is nearly identical to the one that was stolen overnight Sunday, and was used by Wolski’s mother who died two years ago.

“It was something that touched my heart,” said Wolski. “I know the struggles of having to get out and about, and not being able to. For me, this is destiny to try to help this lady out.”

With the help of extra space in KRDO NewsChannel 13’s live van, Wolski brought the scooter to Luoma’s home. Luoma said she had no idea who the smiling stranger was.

“I thought there was something else going on in the neighborhood, that somebody else had something stolen,” said Luoma.

Luoma still had her scooter’s seat and battery, and they fit perfectly on Wolski’s scooter. Wolski also gave Luoma a gift of $100 in cash. The two women shared an emotional embrace.

“I would have never dreamed that someone would give me a scooter,” said Luoma. “People just don’t do that. They steal things from you. They don’t give you things. (Wolski) is a wonderful person. I can’t say enough. Thank you seems so inadequate.”

Wolski said the meeting was better than she imagined.

“Coming down here, I kind of heard my mom talking to me, telling I was doing good,” said Wolski. “I’m glad I did it.”

Two other people contacted KRDO NewsChannel 13 offering to replace Luoma’s scooter. She said she’ll make sure this scooter isn’t stolen, by keeping it locked.
