Black bear spotted in El Paso County

A black bear was spotted near Highway 94 and Curtis Road on Monday morning.

Authorities say that a large black bear climbed up a tree, likely because it was scared. U.S. Parks and Wildlife officials plan to tranquilize the bear and move it for its safety.

Bears are not unheard of east of the Colorado Springs, but officials say this is on the fringe of where they would expect to find a bear.

Meanwhile, there are reports of a brown bear cub near Powers and Barnes. We are working to confirm that information with authorities. Stay with KRDO.com and NewsChannel 13 for updates.
