NORAD Names New Deputy Commander

Canadian Lt. Gen. Alain Parent has been appointed as the new deputy commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command.

NORAD announced the appointment Tuesday.

Parent replaces Lt. Gen. Tom Lawson, who was named chief of Canada’s Defense Staff last month.

Parent’s previous position was commander of 1 Canadian Air Division.

NORAD is a U.S./Canadian command responsible for defending the skies over both countries. It also monitors sea traffic approaching their shores. Its headquarters are here at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo.
