Families want answers about two Fort Carson Soldier Deaths

An investigation is going on to give more clarity on how two Fort Carson soldiers died this week. Sgt. Christopher Birdwell and Spc. Mabry Anders were killed in Afghanistan. The Department of Defense says both men in their 20’s were killed by enemy small arms fire. There is a fear that they may be victims of what’s called an insider or a green on blue attack. These are Afghans who turn on soldiers that they often train with and see regularly.

Sgt. Birdwell’s family in Windsor Colorado is desperately seeking answers to help them further understand the circumstances of his death. More than 40 Coalition soldiers have died in these insider attacks, so far this year.

We’ll continue to follow the investigation into Birdwell and Anders deaths. At this point there is no firm date yet for the memorial service at Fort Carson for these two brave men. We’ll keep you in the loop on that date. We will also be there to make sure you see how these men are honored.
