Streets open, CSPD still seeks fugitive

Colorado Springs police continue their search for a man who escaped from a bail bondswoman around 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

Police spent the better part of the afternoon and evening searching for Ryan Hernandez, 30, in the Pikes Peak Park area.

The bail bondswoman was armed, police said, and tried to forcefully capture Hernandez when he ran away in the 2700 block of Carmel Court. Police set-up a perimeter around the neighborhood. Many neighbors were not allowed in for several hours, and police told others to stay inside.

Hernandez is wanted on two felony warrants, theft by receiving, and motorcycle theft. He’s also being sought on two counts of DUI. Police said he was driving a stolen motorcycle at the time.

Police said they believed Hernandez was hiding in yards along Carmel Court but did not find him. Officers began re-opening streets and allowing people back into the blocked-off area just before 8 p.m.

The search for Hernandez brought many curious neighbors out to watch. One of the neighbors, Tim Conklin, said he is frustrated by the crime and violence in his community and may move out.

“I want to by the end of the week, to tell you the truth,” saod Conklin. “I’ve been here seven months, and it’s been horrible. (There are) a lot of gunshots and crime all the time. I don’t want to be here. I just wanted to come home and take a shower.”

Detectives were still going door-to-door late Monday night. They believe Hernandez remains in the area and may have received help from someone to hide there. Police say Hernandez has lived in the area in the past.

Hernandez has been known to carry guns in the past, and anyone who encounters him should consider him to be armed and dangerous. Police did not find any weapons belonging to him.

Police hoped to have a photo of Hernandez available on Tuesday. He’s described as a Hispanic male with long, black hair in a ponytail, wearing black clothes and carrying a black backpack.

Anyone who sees Hernandez should call 911 immediately.
