Colorado alternate delegate heads to Tampa

As a possible hurricane threatens the Republican National Convention, Republicans aren’t losing their focus.

“What I believe, (it) is truly the most important election in my lifetime,” said alternate delegate Kendal Unruh.

This will be Unruh’s 7th time representing Colorado Republicans. She is looking forward to officially nominating Mitt Romney for President and hopefully garnering him more votes come November.

“It’s about informing them who our candidate is, what his policies will be and what platforms he is running on,” she said.

Unruh expects Romney to push the point that he believes President Obama has failed to fix the economy and create jobs. She also expects the GOP to continue separating itself from Democrats on issues involving marriage and the 2nd Amendment.

During the convention, Unruh said they also lay out their platforms of issues and ideas for the next four years.

As for Tropical Storm Isaac, she packed rain gear.

Party officials said presidential candidate Mitt Romney will be nominated Tuesday, as will vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan.

Unruh is among 33 alternate delegates and 36 delegates attending from Colorado.

Planners decided Saturday to delay the convention’s start, then had to scramble to shave some speakers and find new places for others.

The storm that had originally threatened the Tampa Bay area was forecast to veer west into the Gulf of Mexico away from Florida.
