Stepfather Arrested In Baby’s Death

A stepfather was arrested in the death of a 10-month-old boy, according to Colorado Springs police.

The boy’s parents called 911 Friday night when the baby went unconscious, officials said. Hospital officials noticed numerous bruises on the baby’s torso and face. Officials said the baby also suffered a fractured skull and a bleeding near the brain. He was transferred to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

Investigators said the parents’ initial accounts of how the injuries occurred did not match up with their investigation.

Zachary Doggart, 20, was arrested and charged with child abuse resulting in death. Doggart is an active duty soldier stationed at Fort Carson.

An autopsy was completed. The coroner determined the baby died of blunt forced trauma to the head and his death was ruled a homicide. Police officials said this is the first child homicide in Colorado Springs this year and the 18th overall.
