Burner App gives you disposable phone numbers

A new iPhone app can give you an additional phone number in just minutes. It’s called the Burner app can be yours for $1.99.

You can use it to call or text, share contact information on social media and set specific notification settings separate from your actual number. This is meant to give you a layer of privacy when it comes to handing out your phone number.

The app developers say it’s ideal for dating, buying and selling online, or posting on social media. They do point out that this is not made to be used for unlawful activity and they do have the right to turn over information to law enforcement if they have a court order to do so.

The start up fee gets you the app and a phone number that is yours for a week. Once you do ditch, or burn, your new number, it’s gone forever and people who try to reach you will be greeted with a simple out-of-service message.
