West Nile virus strikes 4 more Coloradans
Colorado health officials are reporting 12 people hospitalized for West Nile virus, including four more in the Denver metro area.
According to our sister station in Denver, KMGH-TV, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment says human cases of West Nile virus have been reported in Adams, Arapahoe, Delta, Douglas, Fremont, Mesa, Montrose, Morgan and Weld counties.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say more than 1,100 cases have been reported in the United States in 2012. That’s the highest number of cases reported by this time of the season since the virus was first detected in the United States in 1999.
Most people infected with West Nile virus won’t get sick. Symptoms include headache, high fever, neck stiffness, disorientation, coma, tremors, convulsions, muscle weakness and paralysis.
