Charges on former Florence mayor delayed
It may not be until next week before we know whether criminal charges will be filed against Ron Hinkle, the ex-mayor of Florence who recently resigned because of a scandal.
Fremont County District Attorney Thom LeDoux, Florence Police Chief Mike Delaurentis and other officials met for several hours Thursday at the County Judicial Center to discuss the matter.
A decision on charges was expected Thursday. However, Delaurentis said investigators have obtained new information in the case that must be considered before reaching a decision. He said that decision likely will come next week, once LeDoux reviews the final report in the case.
Delaurentis did not elaborate on the nature of the new evidence.
Hinkle resigned a week ago amid accusations that he was drunk, used racial slurs and was aggressive toward a security worker during a recent town festival.
Hinkle and the worker declined to comment on the matter Thursday.
It’s unclear what charges Hinkle could face.
