Cab Driver Found Assaulted
Fountain police are investigating after a cab driver was found injured in the middle of the street.
Police say it started out as a routine phone call.
“He had a call to come down here for a fare, and when he arrived, what happened, happened,” said Fountain Police Lieutenant Michael Hutchinson.
Fountain police were called to the scene at about 12:50 a.m. in the area of Taos Circle and South Santa Fe Avenues. Officials said when they arrived, the driver was outside the cab lying in the middle of the road, beaten.
“He had been seriously assaulted, he couldn’t speak, but like I said, he was conscious, breathing,” Lt. Hutchinson said.
The driver was taken to the hospital, where police say he is now speaking, and he is expected to survive.
Police have not yet named a suspect. They say they believe it was one person without a weapon. They don’t know what prompted the assault.
Police are looking through the cab’s camera to shed some light on what happened. If you have any information call Fountain Police at 719-382-8555.
