Update: Body Found In Colorado Springs Storm Drain

UPDATE: Colorado Springs police investigated after a body was found in a storm drain on Monday night, although the death appears to be accidental.

The body of a transient man was discovered at around 7:15 p.m. on Academy Boulevard near the Pikes Peak Avenue intersection.

A witness who asked to remain anonymous told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that the deceased appeared to be a nude white male with no legs.

Police confirm that the man was indeed a partial amputee, and a wheelchair was found a short distance away from his body.

“He looked like a friend of mine whom I knew from way back,” said the witness. “I thought I recognized him. He was in a wheelchair. He had been in the Vietnam war.”

Police are performing a thorough investigation of the scene, although at this point, it does not appear that foul play was involved.

“It does seem like a natural death in an odd place,” said police Sgt. Craig Simpson.

The coroners office did respond to the scene, and will give an official ruling as to cause and manner of death later in the week.
