Part of DIA’s massive tent roof to be unhooked

A portion of Denver International Airport’s iconic tent roof will be unhooked from the ground as workers make way for a new train station and 500-room hotel.

A Denver television station reports tension from the cables on the south end of Jeppesen Terminal’s roof will be transferred to two temporary steel towers. Each cable holds tens of thousands of pounds of weight and is necessary to keep the white fiberglass roof in place.

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock will remove the final pin holding the cables in place during a ceremony Aug. 29.

DIA’s South Terminal Redevelopment Project is scheduled for completion in 2016.
