New Records Broken at Pikes Peak Ascent

Hundreds of runners took on the Pikes Peak Ascent Saturday.

Runners took off from Manitou Springs at 7 a.m. Saturday morning. They ran up Barr Trail to the top of Pikes Peak, a 13-mile race including an 8,000-foot vertical climb.

A new women’s record was broken. Kim Dobson, 28, of Grand Junction finished the race in 2:24:58.The previous record set in 1981 was 2:33:31. Dobson came in first for the women and 6th overall.

Jason C Delaney, 32, of Golden finished first overall with a time of 2:13:18. Other top finishers includeRickey Gates, 31, of Woody Creek coming in second, followed byRyan R Hafer, 26, of Colorado Springs, Sage Canaday, 26, of Boulder and Steven Stoot, 21, of Colorado Springs.

Coming in second for the women, Ellie Keyser, 23, of Fort Collins, followed by Brandy Erholtz, 34, of Evergreen, Lisa Goldsmith, 47, of Nederland and Amanda Ewing, 31, Colorado Springs.

The Pikes Peak Marathon starts Sunday at 7 a.m.
