Driver identified in deadly Fremont County crash

The Colorado State Patrol says drugs may be to blame for a crash that killed a woman in Fremont County.

It happened about three miles west of Howard on Colorado 50 around 12:15 Thursday afternoon.

Troopers tell us a 2011 Chevrolet was driving west in the eastbound lane. That’s when troopers say the Chevrolet hit a 1985 Subaru head-on.

Troopers say the driver of the Chevrolet was 60-year-old William Shaffer of North Liberty, Iowa. They say he was wearing a seatbelt and was taken to The Heart of the Rockies Medical Center in Salida. He’s expected to be alright.

Troopers say the driver of the Subaru was killed. She is 41-year-old Heather Dunn from Cotopaxi. Troopers say she was not wearing a seatbelt.
