Texas firm to build $44.8M hangar at Ft. Carson

A Texas construction company has been awarded a $44.8 million contract to build an aircraft hangar at Fort Carson.

The Defense Department announced Tuesday that Hensel Phelps Construction Co. of Austin, Texas, will build the hangar.

Work is expect to be completed in February 2014.

Fort Carson will be the home of a new Army helicopter brigade to supplement the 4th Infantry Division based at the post outside Colorado Springs.

The 13th Combat Aviation Brigade will have up to 2,700 soldiers and 113 helicopters.

Construction to accommodate the brigade is expect to take four years and cost a total of about $730 million.
