UPDATE: Highway 67 Remains Closed Through Monday

Highway 67 will stay closed through Sunday as crews work to repair a sinkhole, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The closure began when the sinkhole was discovered 11 a.m. Saturday morning.

The hole is about 20 feet deep, 2 feet wide at the surface and 5 feet wide underneath the surface of the road, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. C-DOT had a crew on the scene trying to make repairs, but it’s not yet clear how long the highway will be close. Officials said the hole was caused by a mine shaft underneath the highway and they are concerned that it could grow.

Crews were drilling Sunday to get a handle on the size of the mine shaft so they can decide how to go about making repairs, according to CDOT.

Officials said they anticipate the road will remain closed most of Monday

Teller County officials said drivers can use Teller County Road 1 or 82 as detours. C-dot said that detour should only add an extra 15 minutes to your travel time.
