Vice Presidential hopeful in Springs stumping for Romney

Barrack Obama was not the only political heavyweight in Southern Colorado on Thursday ahead of the presidential showdown this November.

Challenger Mitt Romney’s bus of supporters carried Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal to town. The vice presidential possibility criticized the president over his health care and economic plans. Jindal called Obama incompetent while in office.

“This is a very important election,” said Jindal. “We’re here to support Governor Romney. Quite simply we can’t afford another four years of this president’s policies.”

Jindal blamed Obama’s policies on the 23,000 under or unemployed Americans and a poor unemployment rate that’s been above 8 percent for 42 consecutive months.

“Every year President Obama has been in office the national deficit has gone up by one trillion dollars,” said Jindal.

Jindal also said the average median income for Colorado households is down $3,000 since Obama has been in office.

Other Republicans on the bus tour also hammered the president for his economic record.

“Mitt Romney is the right person at the right time to get our country turned around and moving in the right direction,” said Rep. Jason Chaffetz, a Republican from Utah.

Romney is the Republican presumptive nominee for president despite a heated contest earlier this year and in 2011 against a crowded field. In February, Colorado Republicans backed Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum. Despite that, Colorado Republicans said they are united behind Romney.

“I think what unites Republicans is beating Barrack Obama,” said Chaffetz.
