Shooting victim in critical condition

A man showed up at Memorial Hospital early Thursday morning after being shot in the chest. Police are investigating whether it’s related to other early morning shooting reports near Airport Rd. and Murray Blvd.

Police say they responded to several calls reporting shots fired at 4070 Airport Rd. early Thursday morning. They saw a car taking off from the scene but no shooter. Neighbors also heard the gunshots.

“My sister said she heard some argument, arguing going on outside,” said Anthony Ramsey, who lives in the area. “She heard two gun shots and then some yelling.”

Police say it was shortly after that D’andrea Smith showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound. They can’t confirm if the incidents are related.

“We believe they may be, but we’re still investigating that,” CSPD Sgt. Mary Walsh said.

Police were investigating at the apartment complex at 4070 Airport Rd. They say they found shell casings but don’t know if they’re related to the case. Ramsey says he’s not happy about the incident.

“To hear this happen, with three kids, that’s not good,” he said.

No details of the shooter have been released. Police say they believe two Black males were involved.
