Foreign substance in Divide shed is not explosive

The El Paso County Regional Explosives Team responded to the report of a suspicious substance on Wednesday morning in Divide.

According to the Teller County Sheriff’s Office, a widowed woman in Divide called authorities after finding a foreign liquid substance in her shed on Valley View Dr. The woman’s husband was a miner so she thought the substance may be explosive.

Teller County authorities called the EPSO explosives unit as a precaution. After examination of the substance, authorities determined it was not explosive. Officials say it may be a possibly hazardous material and Teller County hazmat crews have taken over the investigation.
