Christo art project delay

Christo’s over the river art project is on hold. Our news partners at the Pueblo Chieftain talked to Christo who told them about the delay. Christo said his project won’t make the August 2015 deadline. There are three legal challenges he is facing that has forced the time out, for nowon the project.

I went to Canon City to get a take on what residents are feeling about the project being put on hold. The 16th Street Cafe lunch hour is where I talked to people about the situation. Katie Benedick is for the art that Christo is pushing. She told me, “I’m very disappoitned. I thought it was coming. My whole family is excited. Stephanie Acello isn’t unhappy about the delay. She told me, “Putting sheets over the river just doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t consider it art. It’s impractical.”

Christo’s project is to put nearly six miles of silvery, shimmery fabric panels over the Arkansas River from Canon City to Salida. Eight segments would stretch over 42 miles.
