US 24 back open in both directions

US 24 is back open after mudslides closed the highway Monday night.

Colorado State Patrol tells KRDO NewsChannel 13 that the most recent slide happened around 11:30 Monday night.

Ute Pass was not the only area hit by flash flooding Monday night. Heavy rain fell across much of Colorado Springs flooding several intersections. Significant flooding was reported at the intersection of Highway 115 and Star Ranch Road in Southwest Colorado Springs, and at the intersection of Main Street and Security Boulevard, and Fontaine Boulevard and Security Boulevard in the Security-Widefield area.

In Manitou Springs, police drove the streets warning residents about the flash flood danger with megaphones. Police dispatchers told KRDO NewsChannel 13 they had not heard of any significant flooding in town, but other media reports suggested that was not the case.

Some intersections across the Colorado Springs metro area were closed briefly until the storm water could drain off.

In addition to the flooding, Colorado Springs Utilities reports widespread outages across the city of Colorado Springs and says 1,047 customers in Green Mountain Falls are without power.

Utilities crews will work through the night to restore power in Colorado Springs. It may be later Tuesday before crews can restore service to customers in Green Mountain Falls.
