Man arrested after gun brought into theater

A 48-year-old man has been arrested and several theaters were evacuated after someone carried a gun into a Thornton movie theater.

Police arrested James Mapes of Northglenn on Sunday after patrons reported he was carrying a handgun strapped to his waist. It was unknown if Mapes has a concealed-carry permit that allows people to carry guns in some cases in Colorado if they get training.

Theaters across the country have been jittery after 12 people were killed and 58 others were wounded at an Aurora movie theater on July 20 during a showing of the Batman film “The Dark Knight Rises.”

Colorado prosecutors are expected to file formal charges Monday against James Holmes, a former neuroscience student accused in the theater shootings.
