Fort Carson dedicates clinic to honor fallen hero
Fort Carson officials dedicated the Private First Class Eric P. Woods Soldier-Family Care Center on Friday.
Woods was an Army medic who was killed in the line of duty in 2005 in Iraq.
Soldiers who served with him said he was trying to save a comrade when he was killed.
Woods had stabilized a wounded soldier and gotten him into a ground ambulance when an improvised explosive device killed him.
Many of Woods’ family and friends were at the Mountain Post for the dedication ceremony including his parents, Chuck and Jan, who traveled from Iowa.
They said their son lived life “at the front of the line,” leading by example and motivating others to be their best.
They pointed out that his tombstone reads, “hero is not how he died, but how he lived.”
A soldier who served with Woods, Lt. Stephen O’Hearn, said Woods was extremely likeable and always seemed to enjoy life.
Woods leaves behind a wife and son, Eric Scott.
