Happy homeowners with bright future

A bright future is ahead for homeowners Joseph Boyd and his wife Patricia Nelson-Boyd. They are the first to receive a building permit to rebuild their Waldo Canyon fire ravaged home.

The Boyds took me for a tour of what was their home on 2270 Yankton Place. Patricia told me, “It’s comforting to know we will be back in our home, back in the area that we love to live.” Joseph told me, “This was a devastating loss. The best thing to do is move ahead.” The couple is moving ahead. Thursday, the project will begin with a demolition of the existing foundation to make way for an all new home. Joseph is looking forward to a home that is, “More modern, more energy efficient and just a new home.” The builder tells me that he expects this new home to be complete in 120-days.

Pikes Peak Regional Building has worked hard to streamline the process for Waldo Canyon fire survivors to rebuild homes and dreams. Regional Building’s Bob Croft tells me, “Our pledge is to try and help everyone recover as quickly as possible.” That pledge includes a full time inspector for residents and builders in the Mountain Shadows area. Croft tells me this inspector will be able to make decisions on the spot about building decisions to make the process more efficient and faster. Croft adds that even with the faster process, “We are not going to give up life safety things.”

We’ve put a link to the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department’s website on Links We Mentioned on KRDO.com. You can see for yourself how Regional Building has made the process more efficient for homeowners who are already dealing with the after effects of the Waldo Canyon fire.
