Alamosa police officer cited in crash

An Alamosa police officer was cited in a car accident while responding to a domestic violence call.

Around 2:00 p.m. Monday, Officer Adam Jennings was heading westbound on Main Street with emergency lights activated. He was responding to a report of a domestic violence call on the west side of Alamosa.

Jennings proceeded through the intersection of Main Street and Ross Avenue even though the light for westbound traffic was red.

At that time, 76-year-old Mary Veliz of Alamosa was northbound on Ross Avenue and had a green light through the intersection. She collided into the left side of the police car with her 1994 Chevrolet sedan.

The police car rotated to the right on impact and collided with a pedestrian, 44-year-old Jody Streff of Wentworth, SD. She was walking westbound in the crosswalk, crossing Ross Avenue.

Streff was transported to the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center for moderate injuries.

Jennings and Veliz were not injured in the crash. Both vehicles sustained moderate to severe damage.

Jennings was cited for Careless Driving Causing Injury.
