Wreck on Powers Blvd. sends 6 to hospital

A nasty wreck on Powers Boulevard Sunday morning sent six people to the hospital.

It happened near Old Ranch Road, involved three cars and closed portions of the roadway for more than one hour.

Police said a Mitsubishi Sports Utility Vehicle was southbound on Powers Boulevard when the driver failed to stop at a red light. The SUV hit two vehicles that were westbound on Old Ranch Road. The Mitsubishi ended up on it’s roof.

“We’d like people obviously to pay attention to lights,” said Russ Rinck, a Battalion Chief for CSFD. “We see people run red lights all the time. I know anyone who lives in Colorado Springs sees that on a regular basis.”

A total of six people were taken to local hospitals, including four children, according to police. They add that none of the injuries appear critical. Police said seat belts were being used in all three vehicles.

Police said they plan on ticketing Casey Hogan, 25, for running a red light and careless driving resulting in injury.
