Wayward Monitor Lizard Found In Teller County

Dino, a six-foot Nile Monitor that escaped from his Woodland Park home on Monday, is back home Friday night.

The Teller County Sheriff’s office made the announcement Friday evening, saying the lizard was found about 6:00pm.

No other details were offered.

The dragon like reptile has been at large since July 16th, when the owner called to report that the lizard had chewed through his leash.

A reverse 911 call was made to residents, since Nile Monitors can bite when feeling threatened. They tend not to be aggressive unless they feel trapped.

The owner of the animal has not been charged; it is perfectly legal to own a Nile Monitor according to Teller County regulations.
