Local church holds vigil for shooting victims

Members of the Fresh Wind Church gathered at the Memorial Park boat dock Friday night to honor victims of the Aurora shooting.

With candles in hand, they assembled around a park bench, singing and praying for those who lost their lives. A small group of five quickly grew to about 20 people, as other church members and even some passers-by joined them.

Organizers say the event was put together spontaneously. When they heard the tragic news, some members of the congregations simply wanted to do something for the victims. So they decided to pray for them.

“God is so powerful, he answers our prayers,” Assistant Pastor Clifton Moore said. ” We’re going to be praying for the families and those (that were there.) We’re asking that they have a speedy recovery. Those that need counseling, that the counselors do a good job counseling those who were caught up in that tragedy, and that it won’t scar these people for the rest of their lives.”
